“Ma’am, do you know where I am?"

The women backed away, terrified by the girl standing in front of her.

The young girl had pale skin that contrasted her hollow, yellow eyes. An old axe was clutched in her right hand, and the breeze brushed through her long, violet hair. What really was terrifying about her though was the expression plastered on her face. She didn’t seem like the innocent young girl you thought she would be; she looked completely and utterly insane.

Diane was a strange girl. Most of the kids avoided her, giving dirty looks behind her back, ultimately leaving her alone. Well, all but some. She was an anti-social person, and would ignore any one who would try and talk to her; not like anyone would, anyways. When she reached high school, things changed for the worse. People started picking on her, calling her crude names and slandering about her. Being the type of girl she was, she didn’t care at first... But then it got bad.

The name calling and verbal insults just got terrible; to the point where it went to physical abuse. They pushed her, tripped her, shoved her in lockers, and over all that, she tried to keep up her emotionless act. Diane didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of seeing her cry, so she kept her head up and ignored everyone.

“Hey, loser. What are you doing wandering alone again?” A familiar, yet annoying voice called on her, “still haven’t made any friends? That makes too much sense.”

The odd girl continued to walk.

“She’s talking to you, freak. Are you deaf or something?” They then harshly shoved her against the wall of the hallway. The corner of a bulletin board jabbed her in the side harshly. No one bothered helping her; they just kept on with their lives. That’s how selfish this race was.

 Extremely.

The girls snickered, “you’re pathetic, no wonder your parents didn’t want you!” Stella, the head captain of the cheerleaders, sneered. Diane despised her. Stella always found the chance to make her life as miserable as possible, and no one dared to ever question that. It was as if it were normal. She, out of everyone, took on that brave role. A script no one dared to come close to, and underestimated the very most. Stella was the most popular girl at school, with a skinny waist, long blonde hair and glistering sea blue eyes. Stella was gorgeous, making the perfect protagonist for this endless play. Diane wasn’t one to question that. She, out of most people, was grateful for the fact that it had been her, and no one else. She presumed she brought the attention on herself, and she couldn’t handle how others were taking it. They were just so... sad. The sixteen year old girl then decided to dye her hair. Purple, specifically, and not only that. She also let go of one of her biggest secrets.

“Yeah, her parents probably didn’t want her. I don’t blame them, look at her!”

Ashley and Christiana bursted into laughter, as Diane struggled against Stella's hard grip. They were both Stella’s followers, and just wanted that attention, obeying her every command. They were just that desperate.

Diane glared at them, hatred burning in her usual calm eyes. Stella smirked at her, “Aw, poor little girl,” she cooed mockingly, “does no one love you?” She smiled, “Well maybe if you weren’t such a fucked up loner, perhaps someone would have adopted you. Wait, never mind. That would be impossible considering you and your sister are both so ugly and mentally challenged.”

Christiana and Ashley gaped, and did the usual 'ohhh'. “Shut up…” Her voice was quiet, but intimidating. She didn’t care what they threw at her, let it be their fists for all she cared. But on no account will they ever ill speak of her sister and get away with it. Pushing Stella away from herself, Diane stared daggers at the girl.

“Oh, ew, I think it talked!” Christiana gasped sarcastically, acting surprised. The leader of the three chuckled, “did you say something?” She challenged, eyes burning into Diane’s cold yellow ones. But before Stella had a chance to react, Diane’s fist had collided with her nose, and before anyone could react, blood already started rushing down her face. Ashley and Christiana then rushed to her side in one swift movement.

“Did you seriously just hit me, you worthless whore!?” Stella retorted, moving her fist toward Diane’s face. Quickly dodging it, she got up. Adrenaline coursing through her, she quickly sprinted out of the hallway, and toward the girl’s bathroom. Locking the stall, Diane quickly glanced down at her hands. Her stomach churned as she saw the crimson liquid all over her. She had never fought back before, even if they did do terrible things. She wasn’t a violent person.

Head throbbing, she shut her eyes trying to drown out all her thoughts. What had she done? ‘Now the bullying is just going get worse’, She comprehended bitterly.

Washing her hands, she decided to just skip class and go home; she had enough of today.

The autumn wind whistled through her dark hair. It was the reason she had been an outcast, and knew that it was the reason she was left behind as well.

Sighing, Diane looked up at a building, the orphanage. It was her home ever since she was ten years old, and when her parents disappeared. They just completely vanished, leaving her and her newborn sister alone. It has been six years since then, and there hasn’t been any sign of them coming back. They doubted they ever would.

Walking in, Diane was greeted by Ms. Walker, the headmaster of the orphanage. “You're early, what happened?”

“Nothing,” she mumbled, throwing her backpack onto the floor and climbing up the stairs to her room. Mrs. Walker raised an eyebrow, crossed arms. "What am I going to do with that child?" She murmured under her breath.

“Dee!” A specific six year old sister, called out excitedly, running to her sibling, “how was school?” Diane grinned like an idiot, ruffling her hair lovingly. “It was fine,” she added some tone to her dull everyday lie.

Tugging Diane’s arm, she lead her to the playroom across theirs. “Will you play with me?” The girl questioned, happily. The older of the two patted her shoulder. “Alright, alright, fine. But only for a little while, okay?”

Putting her mind off of what happened earlier at school, Diane liked playing with her little sister, and she loved it, actually. She was all this girl had left. Without her, there was no use in living. “Dee, guess what?” Giggling Nikki hugged her big sister, joyfully. “I love you!”

Diane chuckled, wrapping her arms around the six year old as well, “love you too, Nikki.”

The next week went by like a blur. She was right, the tormenting did get unpleasant. Stella and her lackeys were even crueler now, tripping and shouting insults at Diane every chance they got. She was getting seriously annoyed; they just wouldn’t leave her alone. Grabbing her homework out of her locker as the bell rang, Diane sighed in relief. The day was finally over... She was relieved that today; strangely, the girls had left her alone for some odd reason. But Diane refused to let that get in her way.

Walking to the orphanage, Diane noticed police cars parked around, and sirens going off into the distance. She sensed something was wrong and quickly rushed inside. Something was definitely not alright; it was unusual. Everyone looked frantically, and worried about a specific issue. The orphanage workers were talking nervously to the police officers and the kids were all rounded in their rooms. Everything was oddly quiet; usually the children would be running around, playing or laughing. What was wrong? A thought slipped Diane's mind, and she threw her equipment off.

Climbing up to her and Nikki’s room, she found it empty. Strange, where was she?  Her little sibling would be here colouring, or playing around with the other girls, waiting for Diane's return from school. Peering in the playroom, she found that her sister wasn’t there either. Running from room to room, she was starting to really panic.

“Where is she?” Diane panted, hands on knees, bending down.

The workers looked up, sympathetically, pitying the poor girl whose eyes were wide and filled with pure shock.

“Where is my sister!?” Diana snapped, encountering Ms. Walker. “WHERE THE HELL IS MY LITTLE SISTER?!”

 “Sweetie, calm down-”

“NO, WHAT DID YOU DO TO NIKKI?!”

“Diane please, calm down,” the head nervously bit her lip. “Sh-she went missing in the afternoon... I was sure she was playing with the kids outside, but it seemed she wandered off. We tried to find her, but couldn't and called the police but there was no luck-”

“SCREW YOU! This is your entire fault!” Diane hissed, tears blurring her eyes, “you should have been watching her! She would've been safe!” Grabbing her coat, the young female ran outside, into the cold weather.

“Where are you going!?” Ms. Walker questioned, yelling after her, worried. “I'm going to find her!"

Running faster and faster towards the forest, she knew Nikki was in there somewhere. She had to get her, especially since it was getting darker by the second. Pulling her flashlight out, Diane searched as quickly as she could, calling her little sister’s name relentlessly.

She just had to find her.

They lived in a small neighborhood where everyone knew each other. It was a pretty safe part of town, that is, until a few weeks ago. The police reported five murders taken place in the woods. A place everyone would go site seeing near and families would gather for picnics. The cops still haven't found the culprit, which had scared the citizens, and kept people away. Diane shivered at that thought. She loved her little sister dearly, and if anything were to happen to her, she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself.

It was so dark out now, and the sky had almost faded to a monochromatic black. Diana hunted, quicker and quicker, determined to find her sister. Suddenly, she stopped due to a noise. What was that rustling? Slowly spinning around, Diane halted herself. There it was again. That was when she knew, someone was following her.

“It's getting dark out, sweetie. You shouldn’t be out here~”

The crazy laughter and sing-song voice caused Diane's blood to run cold. She needed to get out of here. The footsteps behind her gradually grew, closer with every breath she took. What had she got herself into? She then ran in the opposite direction, as tears wet her cheeks. All she could do now is pray that Nikki was alright.

“High school student, Diana Melborg, was found dead this morning. Her body cut open, and stabbed multiple times, similar to the deaths of one of the five other victims found earlier this week-”

Stella shut off the TV, eyes widened in shock. Picking up her mobile device, she dialed Ashley and Christiana. As soon as they picked up, she stayed silent on the line. "OMG- Did you guys see the news?!" Ashley soon broke the silence, not knowing how to react. "I-I did... How about you, Stella?" Christiana sputtered, staying quiet after that. Then slowly Stella smiled, soon after, she was laughing hysterically. Ashley and Christiana just shut themselves up in a mix of shock and horror.

“Stella this isn’t funny!” Ashley put on a disgusted look, “she’s dead!” Stella just smirked, careless. “It's about time someone got rid of that loser. I was just about to kill her myself.”

Shrugging her shoulders, Ashley furrowed her eyebrows, and Christina who looked horrified, huffed in disappointment. “You’re sick.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Let’s just go out for lunch or something,” picking up her purse, Stella beckoned to follow. "Pick you both up in fifteen."

After a few turns and pivots, the three were getting sick of seeing the same sign, over and over again.

“Are you sure you know where we’re going?” Christina asked, “it seems like we’re lost...” Ashley pointed out.

Annoyed by the unnecessary comments, she spun the wheel at the next turn she could see. A loud bang followed right after.

“Ugh, are you kidding me?!” Stella whined as her car fell into a ditch. “Don’t just sit there- Go out and push!” She snapped, and obediently, the two got out of the car. It was obvious Stella had no clue as in where she was headed.

“Push harder!” She barked from the window. All of a sudden, it went a little too silent for her liking. “Hurry up, you idiots!” Stella cried, frustration growing by the second. Nothing happened, and it was more mute than before.

“Seriously, do I have to do everything myself?” Stella puffed, exiting the car. Gazing around, Ashley and Christiana were nowhere in sight. “Um, guys? Hello, this isn’t funny...” Striding towards the back of the car, Stella gasped.

“G-g-guys-?” She croaked, glancing at the mangled, non-moving bodies of her friends.

“Excuse me, but, do you know where I am?” Quickly whipping her head around, Stella found herself face to face with a familiar, purple headed figure. “I-impossible, y-you're dead!” The blonde backed away, slowly, fear evident on her face. This was too fictional, this wasn’t real.  Giggling, Diane stepped closer, waving the axe around in circles in her hands. “I asked you a question-”

 “Get away from me, freak!”

“What seems to be the matter, why won’t you help me?” Diane asked, a pout clear on her face. “Well, I guess I have no choice then.” The tall figure sang, gripped her weapon. “Bye, bye~”

A loud scream then rippled through the forest.
